Years before anyone had heard of Talvin Singh, Makyo was recording Indian-influenced dub and ambient in 1994. Releasing tracks on influential indie labels like SF's Silent and London's Planet Dog, Makyo took a sampledelic approach to fusing mystical eastern sounds with the hypnotic potential of club beats.Makyo'
s first album,
featuring a collaboration with Bill Laswell, was released on Silent in 1996. Makyo's most recent, 4th album , "Yakshini", was released this Spring on Dakini Records, and features the vocals of Natasha Atlas and frequent Makyo collaborator Keiku. Makyo's latest release is an ep on Uplink Records, a dub remix of the soundtrack to the Chinese film "Suzhou River". As a dj, Makyo has played everywhere from clubs like Maniac Love and Yellow, to outdoor festivals like Rainbow 2000.
