Dakini is an embodiment of the feminine principle found in much of Eastern mysticism. Unlike other "Godesses"---from Kali to Gaia---the nature of Dakini remains elusive, and takes on many forms.
In Nepal, Dakini is a heavenly figure, often shown dancing in the clouds.
In India, she is a disciple of Durga, with a thirst for human blood.
In more underground mystical traditions, a Dakini is a female tantric adept, so skilled in sexual yogas, that she can induce enlightenment through intercourse.
From the ethereal to the sensual, Dakini remains elusive, embracing many definitions, but pinned down by none.
